Team Profile
Football-mad Kerala has long yearned for a club which could match the exploits of the state teams which have made their mark in the Santosh Trophy. Fans have gotten their wish, with the Hero Indian Super League club Kerala Blasters FC. Cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar – whose nickname “Master Blaster” is the inspiration for the team name – is a part-owner and lends immediate star power to the club. Co-owner Prasad V. Potluri (Chairman and Managing Director, PVP Ventures) brings tremendous business experience as well as a passion for Indian sports.
The star power will extend to the pitch, as well. David James, the former Liverpool and England goalkeeper, has a dual role with the club, as the team’s marquee player as well as its manager. He was part of the decision-making team which made Michael Chopra, the ex-Newcastle United star striker, the team’s first pick in the International Player Draft on August 21, 2014. The two high-profile Premier League veterans will bring unrivalled experience to the team.
Kerala Blasters FC will be based out of Kochi and play its matches in the 75,000-capacity Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.
